Chasing a Feeling

Every wedding photographer can pinpoint the moment in time they became hooked on photography. The moment they took a photo, looked at it and felt something. That indescribable feeling. From that moment on, every time they pick up a camera, they are trying to re-create that feeling.

(I can pinpoint that moment to 1.17am on July 9th, 2001 on the Greek island of Zakynthos. That’s one of my friends doing a flaming shot of sambucca in his mouth. He’s an idiot, to this day, but a lovable one.)

Andy Tyler London Jewish Wedding Photographer

As a wedding photographer, I am always aiming to transport people back to moments when they felt something. The emotions you go through on your wedding day are emotions you may only experience once in your lifetime. Some of the feelings will just last a short moment, and I aim to capture those moments with my camera so they are frozen in time. Photos that will forever remind you of exactly how you felt in that moment. That is what motivates me at every wedding I am fortunate enough to photograph. I’m chasing a feeling.

"We knew even before we got engaged that we wanted Andy as our wedding photographer, and it was without a doubt one of the best decisions we made."

Tash & Ian, the Beths

"We were unsure about being in front of the camera, but Andy was amazing, he put us at ease in no time."

Experience Matters

I have been taking photos for more than 18 years and photographing weddings for more than six years now. I’ve shot at top London venues like The Dorchester, The Rosewood, St Pancras Renaissance, Old Billingsgate, The Hilton Park Lane, The Montcalm and The Brewery in London city. I’ve been a Jewish wedding photographer, church wedding photographer and Asian wedding photographer.

Whatever you have planned for your wedding, I can create beautiful photos. Whether you’re getting married outside in the middle of summer, in a dimly lit synagogue on a winter’s day, or in a hotel with atmospheric lighting, you can live the moment, knowing your photos are in safe hands with me.

I also take photos for businesses which you can see on my corporate photography website.

Jewish Wedding Photographer

Bewery London Jewish Wedding Photographer

Despite not having a Jewish sounding name, I’m Jewish myself. I grew up in South London, but have since (my wife tells me) moved to the right side of the Thames. We met through JDate, an online dating service for the Jewish community, and got married in 2016 at the St Pancras Renaissance hotel, one of our favourite places in London. It really was the best day of my life, and it was also an experience being in front of the camera for a change. It’s not easy for some people to be in front of the camera, but I have been told many times that I’m very good at making people feel at ease.

I love the crazy energy levels at Jewish weddings.  The emotions are often supercharged and that leads to a dance floor packed with people and love, which is a joy to photograph. If you’re looking for a Jewish wedding photographer to capture the ruach of your wedding, look no further.

Looking back at 2018

Now we're a few days into 2019, it seems like a great moment to look back at the year just past. I was lucky enough to capture some really beautiful weddings in 2018, ranging from big Jewish weddings to English church weddings all the way to intimate weddings with just the bride, groom and their mums in a registry office! They were all awesome for different reasons, and I am super grateful to all of my couples who chose me to capture their special day, it really means a lot to me. It had been a long time coming but...

A Fresh Start

Welcome to my new website! I'm so excited for this to launch, it has been a labour of love. At the end of last year I approached the brilliant guys at Grizzly Bear Design, a branding and web design agency in Manchester, because I had seen their previous work and was a big fan. I've been doing wedding photography now for more than five years, and I've come a long way in those 1825 days. When I look back at the first set of wedding photos I took back in 2013, I'm really pleased with how my photography has developed. I...

Award Wins!

I'm absolutely delighted that I've won a few awards recently for the below images in the Nine Dots monthly competition. Nine Dots is a community of wedding photographers in the UK offering training, inspiration and a brilliant network of likeminded wedding photographers. The images are from Laura and Nathan's wedding in Battersea, Aimee and Charlie's wedding in Dorset, Brian and Mohan's wedding at the Andaz Hotel, Liverpool St, and a couple of images from weddings I have helped at for another great photographer.

Matt & Ola’s Windsor Wedding

I've known Matt for several years now, having met him through my PR photography work, so I was really happy when he told me he was engaged and that he and his wife-to-be, Ola, would love for me to photograph their wedding. Fast forward a year and I found myself in Matt and Ola's lovely flat in Windsor, where Ola was getting ready to marry Matt along with her bridesmaids and parents. Ola is from Poland, so her parents don't speak much English, but on days like this, I didn't need to understand Polish in order to be able to...

Aimee & Charlie’s Barnstorming Wedding

Charlie's older brother is an old school friend of mine, so when he asked me if I would photograph his wedding, I jumped at the chance. Not only because their whole family are super lovely people, but also because their whole family know how to let loose at a party. And I wasn't to be disappointed. Charlie and Aimee actually met through his older brother, and they are a brilliant match for one another. Charlie is a bit of a nutcase, and Aimee obviously has a certain (but probably less) degree of nutcase in her too. Their wedding took place...

Jewish Wedding In A (Old) Brewery

Claire and Mick's wedding was epic. I loved meeting Claire and Mick earlier this year on their pre-wedding shoot. We had a blast rocking around the streets of Kentish Town, their little pocket of London. Such a fun couple, I instantly knew their wedding was going to be good. And it didn't fail to deliver. The Brewery in London City provided the stunning backdrop for a day that had it all. Laughter, tears, dancing, food, more dancing, some more food, and topped off with some more dancing. The ceremony took place in the King George III room with its beautiful...

Two Worlds Meeting: Brian & Mohan

Brian and Mohan are a pair of wonderful human beings. I was so happy when they let me know they wanted me to photograph their wedding this summer. Brian comes from the states but has lived in London for a long time, whilst Mohan hails from Malaysia but has also lived in London a long time. They met four years ago and it's clear they were meant to be together. Their wedding brought together people from across the globe for a celebration of love. I probably say this too much but I have rarely encountered a wedding with so much...

Laura & Nathan’s London Wedding

Laura and Nathan married each other a couple of weeks ago in the stunning, recently renovated Old Marylebone Town Hall. I'm going to be there a few times this year for weddings and I'm already looking forward to going back. I met Nathan and his mates in a nearby pub shortly before the ceremony for a quick drink before heading over to the town hall. A moment or two later, Laura arrived, looking amazing, in one of the most stylish wedding cars I've seen in my time. Driven by a family friend who collects classic cars, Laura pulled up in...

Best of 2017

I always have a good time at this time of year looking back through all the weddings I photographed in the past year. Last year I was lucky enough to shoot weddings at some beautiful venues in and around London and a stunning hotel in Tuscany. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I think how lucky I am to do his for a job! Pulling together my favourite images from a whole year isn’t a quick process but it’s a great way to figure out what works, what doesn’t work and ways to improve my photography. I’m always looking...

A Beautiful Wedding At Mossiman’s

Back in May this year, I was invited along by Bilal and Aale to photograph their engagement party. There was amazing food and drink on offer that day, so it was no surprise when they told me they would be getting married at Mossiman's, a private dining club established and run by the world famous chef, Anton Mossiman. It was a daytime affair too - very civilised indeed! I arrived at Aale's family home where she was getting ready in a beautiful room with lots of space and some gorgeous natural light flooding in from the window. Such conditions are...

Islington Town Hall Wedding

Ben and Kate tied the knot last week at Islington Town Hall in London. I didn't know about it until the night before, when Ben's sister got in touch to see if I was available and if I could capture the wedding as a gift from her and Ben's other sister. I was free that afternoon so popped down to Islington Town Hall, where I've had the pleasure of photographing a number of weddings now. Ben and Kate arrived half an hour before they needed to, so we had time to take a few photos of the two of them...

James & Matt’s Livestreamed Gay London Wedding

Matt has been a client of mine for a couple of years in his job as part of the communications team at Stonewall, the leading LGBT charity in the UK. Naturally when I heard he and his boyfriend were getting married, I wanted to be there! Matt's new husband, James, is from Sydney (a place close to my heart, having lived there for a few years), and works as a journalist for Gay Star News, a popular online destination for the LGBT community. I first met him when I was photographing the Pride March for Stonewall in 2016, they seemed...

Tash & Ian’s Jewish Wedding On A Classic British Summer’s Day

I've known Tash for a long time as a family friend, so I was thrilled when she asked me to photograph her wedding. Ian and Tash would both quite happily admit to being geeky, and that's fine by me because I too would admit to being geeky. Aren't we all geeky about something? Their wedding took place at the lovely Parklands Quendon Hall, a very flexible venue indeed! The original plan was to have their Jewish wedding ceremony, or chuppah, outdoors in front of the grand looking house. But the British summer intervened and it rained for most of the...

Allora! Pete & Mimi, married in Tuscany

I've been lucky enough to visit Italy quite a few times in my life, and it's a country I love. The landscapes, the food, the style, it's all so cool. So I was really thrilled when I was invited to travel to Italy again to photograph a stunning wedding in a truly beautiful setting in Tuscany. Pete and Mimi live together in New York, but with Pete being from London, they wanted to have their wedding somewhere on neutral territory. They chose the absolutely beautiful Conti di San Bonifacio as their venue, a boutique hotel on a Tuscan hilltop. It's...

The sun had his hat on at South Farm for Rafi & Sophie

The weather leading up to this wedding was wet. Very wet. But as if it was meant to be, the sun came out and stayed out for the whole day to allow Rafi and Sophie to have a stunning outdoor chuppah. South Farm looked gorgeous in the sunshine, colourful and bright with spring flowers all over the place provided by Wildwood Floral Events. Some very young little piglets were running around their pen whilst the wedding guests arrived. Everyone had a wander around the grounds before settling down in the garden for a lovely, warm (in more ways than one) ceremony...

Olivia & Adam’s Cotswolds Wedding

Foxhill Manor near Broadway in the Cotswolds played host to the beautiful wedding of Olivia and Adam. It was my first time at the hotel and I loved it - very cosy, great staff, and set in a stunning location overlooking the hills and meadows of the countryside. Olivia and Adam are obviously very close to each other, having met through work, and the warmth and love from their family and close friends filled the room as soon as Olivia was walked down the aisle by her father. The awesome staff were kind enough to give the happy couple and...

Jo & John @ Old Finsbury Town Hall

At the end of October I was lucky enough to photograph the wedding of two absolutely brilliant people. Jo, an old friend of mine from way back when, was tying the knot with her fella, John, and a lovely fella he is too. This was a wedding so full of love it was almost tangible. Jo and John's friends and families created an atmosphere of warmth, energy and happiness, which made for a fantastic night of partying. Jo and John had a mixed ceremony, with the civil service taking place first, immediately followed by a really lovely series of Jewish...

Charlie, Andy, a town hall and a brewery

Following on from a wedding in an old brewery the previous week, this time I was at a working brewery for the party of Charlie and Andy. As soon as I met Charlie and Andy last year, I knew their wedding was going to be a fun one, because they are a brilliant couple who love to party. And they didn't disappoint. More about that later! Charlie and her bridesmaids got ready for the day's events at the Malmaison hotel in Farringdon. Charlie's brother, also called Andy/Andrew (there were a lot of Andys around that day), was going to walk...

Charlie + Imogen at the Brewery

Charlie and Imogen were married in a beautiful Jewish ceremony at one of my favourite London venues, the Brewery, right in the heart of the city. They were married underneath a wonderful chuppah (canopy) that was hand made by Charlie and his father. The canvas had been used for other family weddings over the years so it added something really meaningful to the ceremony - not that it needed anything! It was an emotional occasion. Charlie choked up when he saw his bride for the first time in the bedeken (Jewish custom where the bride and groom see each other...

An Intimate Islington Town Hall Wedding

Scarlett and Jack tied the knot a couple of weeks ago at Islington Town Hall, in a short but ridiculously lovely civil ceremony. Their wedding was the last of the day so we had a bit more space and time than usual to do some portraits using the classic hallway which is so beautiful when filled with natural light from the big windows that line it. Wishing Scarlett and Jack a long, beautiful and happy life together. Andy x   ul

A Jewish Wedding & Afternoon Tea

I've know Verity since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, so I was thrilled when she asked if I would photograph her wedding to her fella, the lovely Tom. They got married in early May on a stiflingly hot day - it was a belter! The ceremony took place at New West End Synagogue in London, which is a place of incredible beauty. It's just an amazing place to tie the knot. Following an emotional ceremony, I hopped in the wedding car with the happy couple and drove back to Canizarro Park in Wimbledon, where we spent twenty minutes shooting...

A Small But Beautiful Chelsea Wedding

Recently I was very happy to capture an intimate wedding for Grace and Patrick. Neither Grace or Patrick live in London at the moment, but Grace grew up in Chelsea, thus the wedding taking place there. The wedding was pretty small but featured about 25 people, a lot of whom hadn't seen each other for a long time, so it was a day full of love and emotion. I first met the happy couple in the morning to shoot some portraits of them in and around Chelsea. Despite a reasonable weather forecast, it rained a bit, but only for a...

A Parsons Green Wedding

Zinnia & Braden were married the weekend before last in Parsons Green, London. Zinnia grew up on Parsons Green, whereas Braden grew up down under. They met in a bar in France during a surfing event near Biarritz. The whole wedding took place in Parsons Green, which was brilliant. A truly local wedding in every sense. I was able to quickly walk from Zinnia's family home, where she was getting ready, to the pub where Braden was having lunch with his ushers. From there it was across the road to the church where they were wed and from there a stone's...

Jess & Ru’s Summertime London Wedding

Jess & Ru are a brilliant pair of people whose wedding I was privileged to photograph a couple of weekends ago at the start of August. I met up with Ru and his ushers in the Cadogan Arms on King's Road in Chelsea, where they took some time before the ceremony to have a relaxing drink and shoot some pool. Everyone including Ru was in a very relaxed mood, looking forward to what the afternoon and evening had in store. Before they had finished their first game of pool I made a swift exit to zip around the corner in my...

Blake & Martha’s beautiful country wedding in Devon

A couple of weeks ago I spent the weekend town in Totnes, Devon, where I had the chance to photograph the whole weekend for an old school friend of mine, Blake, and his lovely new wife Martha. So Devon is pretty far away from London, it turns out. Five and half hours after leaving home, I arrived in Devon at the Maltsters Arms in a quaint village by the name of Tuckenhay. Set on a the tidal Harbourne river, it was an amazing setting on a barmy summer evening where Blake, Martha and a bunch of close family and friends...

Mel + Rob: They Said ‘I Do’, Like To Be Beside The Seaside.

Rob proposed to Mel last year whilst she was drinking a cup of tea in her pyjamas. I love his sense of occasion. They had just come back from a romantic dinner date and it just felt right, he says. Good man! Anyway, they decided they wanted a winter wedding so that didn't give them too long to plan it. Deciding on a venue wasn't too hard for the pair of them as they both love their food and had not long before spent some time at the Gallivant Hotel in Camber, East Sussex. A boutique, seaside, foodie hotel.  ...

James + Freya’s wonderful wedding: planned in just SIX weeks!

I had the time of my life on Saturday photographing the wedding of one of my good university friends, Freya. She was marrying the love of her life James and they have both been living in Dubai for several years now. Hopefully they'll come back at some point!! They did come back for a week to get married but they're back off to Dubai on Wednesday just four days into their new married life. I love photographing friends' weddings because I get a great sense of satisfaction of capturing the magic of their day, and as a friend I feel...

Anjana + Chris: A wedding afloat

Anjana and Chris got in touch a while ago and when I heard about the plans for their wedding day, I was almost as excited as they were! A really fun couple from different backgrounds but with a lot in common at the same time, their wedding was to take place in Tower Bridge. The reception would be on the old war ship, HMS Belfast, which sits in the Thames nearby. We soon went for an engagement shoot in St James Park, London, and Chris and Anjana were such a laugh to shoot. I was chuffed to hear afterwards that...
